Around the NBA - All Star Weekend Recap and the trade deadline

First of all I would like to apologize for not posting anything, but I have been swamped with school work and exams.

All Star Weekend Recap:

It is pretty tough to watch an All Star event in Poland due to the time difference. I had to wake up at 2:00 in the morning, turn on the TV and then try not to fall asleep during a timeout or a commercial brake, which is challenging. But the most difficult part is listening to the  polish commentators... They. Are. Horrible. I am just disgusted by their lack of knowledge and the fact that one of them started hating Anthony Davis, because in his opinion he performed the worst windmill dunk in the history of the NBA, during the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge.

The Rising Stars Challenge was nothing special really, it got a little bit more interesting when Dion Waiters and Tim Hardaway JR did their best impersonation of Gilbert Arenas and Tracy McGrady from 2005, shooting the lights out from distance. My dude Andre Drummond dominated the glass, by setting a record of 25 boards in a Rising Stars Challenge, and gave team Hill the W.

Next we had the Sears Shooting Stars, which nobody really cares about. The Taco Bell Skills challenge was intense, since Lillard and Trey Burke won by just a 0.1 of a second. After that things started to get more interesting, at least I hoped so. I predicted Steph Curry to win the Foot Locker 3PT contest, but the Splash Brother disapointed me, when he didn't even advance to the next round. The Marco Bellineli vs Bradley Beal showdown was great. Beal came up big in crunch time tying the score, and forcing an extra round, where he eventually lost. When I first heard about the new Slam Dunk contest format I didn't like it and after seeing the actual dunk contest I still didn't like it. This year's dunk contest was a joke. With dunker's like TRoss, Paul George, JWall, Ben McLemore I would really rather see them face off individually against each other instead in team EAST and team WEST, as it was obvious from the beginning that team EAST would win. I did not see Damian Lillard as a dunker, but he surprised me with a between the leg dunk and a 360 lefty jam. But still, this was no match for Terrence Ross. Harrison Barnes also lost to Paul George (Barnes let me down, I thought he would show something new this year). The matchup John Wall vs Ben McLemore was the highlight of the night. Ben pulled off an impressive dunk, jumping over a sitting Shaq which got the crowd pumped up and ready for more. Then Wall made a double pump reverse dunk which made the crowd even more hyped! Even I jumped out of my seat waiting for more, I was ready to say that the Slam Dunk contest is back! But then I realised it's over. The dunk contest was over. These two dunks, that was it. I stayed up till 6:00 to watch these two dunks? Are you serious? I think Blake made more dunks in the first quarter of the All Star Game, than John, Ben, Harrison, Terrence, Paul, Damian combined.

To sum up these events I've got to say this: Mr. Adam Silver, please oh please, bring back the old Sprite Slam Dunk Contest format, I am begging you.

Then we had the main event - All Star Game East vs West. Right from the start I knew this was going to be a good game (by 'good' I mean entertaining=lots of dunks, crossovers, etc.), when Blake Griffin threw down like a hundred alley oop dunks. After watching the interview with KD I was waiting for the Kevin vs LeBron battle. Everytime Durant hit a 3pointers LeBron tried to answer back, unsuccessfully. I got the feeling that the Slim Reaper, Iceberg Slim, Servant or whatever you want to call him, took this battle a little bit too personally. I understand he is tired of being 2nd every season, but you really shouldn't play lockdown defence in an all star game, that's just not right KD. And by the way, I think the nickname "The Servant" is just silly, does he really want guys like LeBron, CP3 or Kobe call him the Servant? I don't think so. As much as the game was entertaining and fun, I have to say that the game really 'blew by' me, it just finished so fast. Maybe that's because of the commentator who expressed ZERO emotions, really made the game boring. Kyrie Irving showed us what he is capable of with a team of good players, finishing the game with 31 points, 14 assists and one mean crossover on Dwight Howard.

Summing up this topic, this year's All Star Weekend was below average, I'd give it 3/10.

NBA Trade Deadline:

Once again the trade deadline which was supposed to give us at least one blockbuster move, came up short, with a couple trades involved with mediocre players. Pau Gasol, Rajon Rondo, Omer Asik, Harrison Barnes, Luol Deng, Danny Granger, Zach Randolph - these were the names surrounded in the rumours about potential deals. This got me and other NBA fans, reporters excited. Unfortunately it was all for nothing.

The first deal that went down this month was Sacramento sending Marcus Thornton to Brooklyn for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans. Being a Kings fan I like this trade from a financial standpoint, since it would free up some cap space and get rid of Thornton's inconsistency. Terry probably won't play this season for the Kings, because he is fighting knee injuries and today he is much more talk then game. But still I like his expierience, he is a veteran that could guide Ben McLemore and Isaiah Thomas, that's the type of leadership Sacramento needs, a voice of a veteran with a championship pedigree. The reunion of the father and his son, Reggie Evans and Quincy Acy, I'm just joking, but they do look alike. Looking at this trade from a Brooklyn Nets fan perspective, I would be worried. The Nets are already well above their space cap, and adding a player who is making 8 mln$ a year to bring off the bench, and not knowing if he'll contribute is indeed something to worry about.

The Bucks traded Garry Neal and Luke Ridnour to the Bobcats for Jeff Adrien and Ramon Sessions. The Wizards aquired Andre Miller, who will provide needed backup at the point, trading away Jan Vesely to the Nuggets and Eric Maynor to the 76ers. Houston swapped Aaron Brooks (yet again) for Denver's Jordan Hamilton, who can turn out to be a solid backup swingman for Chandler Parsons. LA Lakers decided to part ways with Steve Blake, sending him to the Bay Area for Kent Bazemore (the Summer League MVP) and MarShon Brooks (during the draft his game was compared to Kobe's). The Cavs got Spencer Hawes for Earl Clark and Henry Sims. I didn't really care for these trades, I was just waiting for the Lakers to deal Pau Gasol to someplace, but as you know that didn't happen.

As the trade deadline passed I was looking at my Twitter feed with a downbeat face, searching for another tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski. Then I read: "BREAKING NEWS: Danny Granger sent to Philadelphia for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen" I was shocked. Evan Turner as a sixth man? Watch out Miami and watch out Lance. Lance Stephenson's contract will expire this summer and Pacers may not be able to resign him so maybe that's why they brought Evan, as a backup plan. Soon after the trade went down, new reports came in about Philadelphia buying out Granger's contract, which will probably happen. The Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs are reported to be interesting in aquiring Danny. I hope he will sign with the Heat, because the Pacers disrespected him a bit, in my opinion. He has been with the Pacers since day one, he's been with them when they were down at the bottom and now when they have a chance to win it all they trade him away to the worst team in the NBA, that's disrecpectful *Stephen A. Other news:
If anyone is interested in ScHoolboy Q's music, his latest album entitled "Oxymoron" leaked into to the web a week before it's release date. If you're a true TDE, Hip Hop, music fan you should buy the album not only download it. It is DOPE. One of the best albums of the year and it could compete with the fellow TDE member's album GKMC, by Kendrick Lamar.
