Sacramento Kings - the most unpredictable team in the league

One year ago I wrote a 3-piece article on the Sacramento Kings; their struggle under the Maloof ownership and a new future with the new owner Vivek Ranadive. Then I was fairly optimistic about the direction the organisation was heading towards. We signed a new and promising coach, whom I really liked, in Mike Malone and picked up a new GM, Pete D'Allesandro. Shortly after some changes in the roster were made. On draft day we were fortunate enough to land Ben McLemore, who I think will be an All-Star one day, later on, in November I think, we made a trade for Derrick Williams- former 2nd draft pick who has struggled much in Minnesota and was given a second chance in Sacramento. Then we traded for yet another forward in Rudy Gay. At the time I was devastated when I heard the news, as Rudy was becoming a joke around the league, earning a reputation of being a volume shooter, instead of a good shooter. He's jack up 30 shots a game in Toronto and would refuse to look at the stat sheet after the games. Plus his contract of 19 mln$/yr was a downside too. But now looking at it in retrospect, Rudy was a steal for us. With DeMarcus Cousins being the team's first option, Rudy stepped in the role of Robin, which meant he'd have less shots then he had in a Raptors jersey. Gay had to redefine his game in Sacramento, which helped rebuild his reputation. Right now he is no longer settling for difficult, contested shots, instead his getting to the freethrow line more often. He worked on his post game and also developed as a play maker, he averages a career high 4.7 APG! I think that Rudy is having himself a career season. And he also signed an extension for three years and 40 mln$ and with the new TV deal the league will sign, this contract will be considered low for a player of Gay's caliber.

The Sacramento Kings took everyone by surprise this season with an unbelievably good start. The team did make some surprising off season moves (picking Nik Stauskas, replacing Isaiah Thomas with Darren Collison and Ramon Sessions) which made me shake my head, but the team looked much better as a TEAM. There was more ball movement, everybody got their touches, players finally bought in on Mike Malone's defense and as a result we started winning ball games. People started questioning whether or not the Kings could fight for the 8th seed in the West!!! But then DeMarcus Cousins (kinda a big reason for the Kings success...) was sidelined for a couple of weeks with viral meningitis. So naturally Sacramento got into a bit of a slump without their star big man, which is perfectly normal for a team to struggle without their best player. BUT Vivek thought otherwise and decided to fire Malone.

When I first heard about the firing of Mike Malone I literally got so angry that fumes started to get out of my ears and nostrils. It was unbelievable. For the first time since forever the Kings are playing good, efficient, WINNING basketball and the owner was still not pleased, claiming it was about the differences in philosophies. Well yeah, if you want to play 4 on 5 defense with one player cherry picking on the other side, and the other guy wants to play some actual defensive sets, yes I would say these two had their differences on how basketball should be played. This move was unexpected to say the least, nobody in the league thought that Malone would be fired, as he did a hell of a job with this team, he actually made them play defense. Unfortunately this relationship was doomed from the start. There have been reports of Mike and Vivek clashing, Vivek wanted to make a move for Josh Smith, Mike didn't, Vivek wanted to try out 4 on 5 defense, Mike didn't... The worst part of this whole firing is the fact that it wasn't the GM who made the decision, despite of what he says. I strongly believe that it was the owner who overused his power. Just like with the 14' draft. Most of the frontoffice people wanted to draft Elfrid Payton, which was a smart idea, since they already decided they would let Thomas go, but Vivek strongly pushed towards drafting Nik Stauskas, a shooting guard, someone who plays the same position Ben McLemore does, a guy who you drafted a year ago. Naturally, you do not want to say 'NO' to your boss and at the end they decided to go with Nik, a pick I think they'll regret in the future.

As of right now Ty Corbin is the interim head coach of the Kings and I hope this will soon change. I don't Corbin is a terrible coach, he's much more suited to be an assistant coach. George Karl and Mark Jackson are two possible coaches that would replace Mike Malone. Karl would be a good fit for the Kings, since he already had worked with D'Allesandro in Denver when he was coaching the Nuggets, and he also is looking for an opening to get back into head coaching. Mark Jackson on the other hand has a relationship with Vivek's advisor Chris Mullin, both played for Golden State Warriors in the 80s'-90s'. He'd bring a strong presense in the locker room and could lead us to the playoffs in a year or two. But as of now, Corbin will be our headcoach, since he decided to go with Vivek's ideas of playing a more uptempo game and playing 4 on 5 defense............

The problem with Vivek is that he doesn't now too much about basketball. Saying you want to play a faster, more uptempo game is dumb and plain stupid, since you have the best center in the league on your team. Boogie isn't freakin' Anthony Davis who runs from one end to the court to the other, blocking shots and finishing alley oops, no. He plays with a different style, you throw him the ball in the low post and let him do his thing. AND OF COURSE PLAYING 4 ON 5 DEFENSE WILL NOT WORK. Seriosly, I'm glad it worked with yours kids and a bunch of other 4th graders, but this is professional basketball, don't turn us into a joke please... Vivek desperately wants to change the way basketball is played by throwing these new crazy ideas into the world, instead of playing with the pieces you have. Let the people you hired make these type of decisions, it's their job right? Ranadive is not the worst owner in the league, he's certainly not worse then the Maloofs', he just wants to make a stand, he wants the league to know him. Let's not forget that Mark Cuban wasn't a good owner from the start, he too made some bad decisions and after a couple of years he decided to let the people he hired handle the basketball related decisions.

Another thing that made me shake my head is the latest trade rumour concerning Deron Williams being traded to Sacramento. I feel like teams now know that Vivek is experiencing the 'new-owner syndrome' where he necessarily has to make a splash with some deals and owner know that so his the first person they call when they want to dump some player on a bad contract. So the trade would look like this: the Kings get Deron Williams and the Nets get Darren Collison, Jason Thompson and possibly Derrick Williams. Now the talks had hit a roadblock because the Kings want to include Mason Plumlee in the deal also, but the Nets say no. My opinion about this trade is please don't do it Vivek. Deron is the second highest paid point guard in the league, behind CP3, but he might not even be a top15 point guard. And it's not like his contract ends next year, we'd have him till 2017! And he's not getting any younger too (currently 30 y/o), plus his ankles are extremely fragile. You could make a case that he'd find a new life here in Sacramento and that you cannot win in the West with Darren Collison as your starting point guard, but still it is not worth it. It's much better to invest your money elsewhere, like for example in Paul Millsap. He is going to be a free agent in the offseason. Or David West. We could make an offer to Indiana throwing in Jason Thompson, Derrick Williams, some picks maybe or Nik Stauskas (he won't have any room to develop with the stelar play from McLemore). So you see there are options and I think we should explore them, instead of settling for Williams.

After a surprising great start from the Kings it seems that we're again back to the start. It's hard being a Sacramento Kings fan, it really is. But it is also exciting, as nobody knows what's going to happen, seriously nobody, we're that unpredictable. Which makes it at least a little bit fun I suppose. Well it's fun, until Boogie decides he's fed up with this and requests a trade... then the fun will be over. Oh and happy holidays everybody!

Around the NBA - I'm baack

Due to overload of work and other stuff, I haven't posted anything in a while and for that I'm sorry.

Anyway, I will shortly write about the things that happened in the NBA during the first trimester of the season; what I liked and didn't like, what surprised me and disappointed me, you know, that sorts of stuff.

The New Kings
You know I have to talk about my Kings. It turned out that replacing Isaiah Thomas with Darren Collison wasn't such a bad idea after all. The players are finally buying into Mike Malone's defense, a coach who specializes in that end of the court, but didn't show that much last season. Ben McLemore is starting to blossom after a rough start to the season. He's playing with more confidence and shoots the ball at a much higher percentage. Whereas his sub, Nik Stauskas, can't quite find the groove yet. His field goal percentage has been bad with 32.9% and he shoots just above 24% from deep, which is troubling, since the Kings selected him because of his terrific shooting. But there is still time, so there is no need to call him a bust. The FIBA World Cup really helped improve both Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins, as both players are playing on an All Star level, Boogie could even jump into the MVP race. Unfortunately DMC has been suffering from a viral infection, which caused him to miss 8 games and counting... The Kings are struggling right now at 11-13 without their star big man, but once he comes back I really think Sacramento can cause some chaos in the West and fight for that 8th seed.

Where's the buzz in Charlotte?
The Hornets are back in Charlotte and after a great season opener everything looked goood, Al Jefferson is healthy, they signed Lance in the offseason and their jerseys are fffrrresshh. But something went wrong in the process and right now the Hornets won 6 of their 22 games. That's the team that was supposed to be battling for the top 3 spot in the East. After this slow start people started to point fingers at the new guy- Lance Stephenson, who already earned himself a reputation in Indiana. Lance was supposed to take the Hornets over the top, but he really hasn't done that much apart from making that tough 3 pointer against Atlanta. Born Ready has been averaging 10-7-5 and shooting 38% from the field and 15% behind the 3 point line... Lance seems to have lost his shooting touch in the Buzz City, opposing teams started to leave him wide open and he still bricks these easy shots. Something is not right in Charlotte, but I don't think it's all Lance's fault and I hope that they will give him some time to settle in, as there already have been reports that the team is looking to trade Lance, which is kind of a panicky move in my opinion.

The East-West problem
The Western conference once again is showing the world its superiority over the poor East. I think it is bizarre that a team placed 12th in the West would be 8th in the East and would make the Playoffs. Something has to be done about this. The PO seeding should be based on the whole league, without the division of conferences. By doing so, we'd give the people what they want, which means more competitive basketball.

Warriors are ballin'
During the offseason the Golden State Warriors replaced their head coach Mark Jackson with a rookie coach Steve Kerr. Now I wasn't sure about that move, as I thought that the Warriors played some good basketball under the leadership of Jackson, but as it turns out it was more about the organisation really disliking him, rather than his performance with the team. Right now the Warriors are the best team in the West and the best team in the whole NBA with a stunning record of 20-2. Last night they just won their 15th straight game! It's the best start in the franchises history! And the best start for a rookie head coach! Steve Kerr finally unlocked the offense in GS, the thing Mark Jackson could never do. Jackson was known for his defensive mindset, but actually the Warriors are playing much better defense under the new head coach which is surprising. It is safe to say that the hiring of Steve Kerr was the right choice.

Joel Embiid - King of Twitterland

Joel-Hans Embiid, the 3rd overall pick of the 2014 Draft hasn't even played one minute in the NBA but he already proved that he has the most game out of that draft class. And by 'game' I mean his smooth talk he tried to use on Twitter to lure Kim Kardashian and Rihanna on a date. With Embiid's recent tweets he established himself as a jokester, a loveable, fun-to-be-around guy. In this post I present to you the Best of Joel Embiid.

It all started on July 1st, when Joel smartly tried to use his recruiting skills to convince LeBron to play with him in Philly.

After a day of silence from LeBron...

Embiid does not wait

He even tried to get a hold of his agent

We even got some 'bromance'

Haters gonna hate

He even took a shot at Drake once LeBron announced his decision

At least you tried...

He already made friends with TDE member, rapper Schoolboy Q

And then the 'flirting' began

Have a nice day!

C'MON MA

Moving on...

He's just joking around

Oh, Joel... I have do admit, you became one of my favourite basketball players, just with your tweets. But stay away from Rihanna, we all saw what happened to JR Smith, right? Joel's career can turn out in two scenarios; 1. Injuries will stop him from fulfilling his potential , 2. He becomes the second Hakeem Olajuwon. I'm rooting for scenario number two. If Embiid turns out to be half as good a player as he is a jokester/troll, he will be successful. We miss players like Joel, players not afraid to say/write what they please, of course he is clearly joking, but still, has anyone ever done that? Joel won my heart and I wish him good luck in the NBA... and with the ladies.

Stay true Embiid, stay true

No Love for Wiggins?

No Love for Wiggins?

There have been a lot of talks recently between the Cavaliers and the Timberwolves, concerning a potential Kevin Love trade. The 25-year-old former UCLA Bruin has made it clear that he wants to leave. Some reports stated that if the Cavs want to acquire Love they would have to send back a package involving Andrew Wiggins, the freakishly athletic 2-guard, but as of right now Cleveland isn't so sure if they want to trade Wiggins. And I don't blame them. Last rumours has it that the Cavaliers offered Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson and some future draft picks in exchange for Kevin Love, but Minnesota is unwilling to discuss about the trade unless Andrew Wiggins is in it. So now people are discussing whether or not Andrew is worth keeping. Some say that he has star potential and it would be foolish to let him go, while others think that if the Cavs want to win right now they absoletuly have to get Love, because a trio of Kyrie-LeBron-Kevin would guarantee them a spot in the Finals. Well, here's my opinion.

The "Big 3's" in the NBA are great, we had Kareem, Magic and Worthy; Bird, McHale and Parish; Jordan, Pippen and Rodman; Duncan, Parker and Manu; Pierce, Garnett and Ray; and most recently LeBron, Wade and Bosh. Those are just a few of the Big 3's we witnessed in the NBA and each of them won at least one NBA Championship, so it's natural that GM's want to acquire 3 superstar players, because they think it's a recipe for success. But, is it really? I mean, sure you have a super team with potential to win multiple Championships, but how long is it going to last? Some Big 3's did create a true, dominating dynasty. I'm talking about the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics(Bird-McHale-Parish), LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls. These teams dominated the league for years. Miami Heat's Big 3 played together for 4 seasons, and during that time they've made the Finals 4 straight times and won 2 championships together, but now with LeBron gone, their done. And the real reason LeBron left, in my opinion, is because the Heat were unable to get the right supporting cast for the LeBron, Wade and Bosh and that's because they made more than 60 mln$ a year combined, so the team had no cap space to sign a decent free agent. While the trio of superstars in San Antonio all agreed to take a major paycut in order to play together and still be able to win. So why are the Cavs still pursuing Kevin Love? He, most likely, wants to get paid BIG BUCKS, something around 20 mln $ per year. LeBron will make 22 mln$/year and Kyrie 18mln$/year throw in Love's potential contract and you've got 60 mln$/year for only three players! And I doubt that LeBron will take some huge paycut after this 2-year contract (he actually has NEVER been the highest paid player on his team, seriously, check it out: http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2014/07/looking_at_how_lebron_james_ha.html)

So I think that the Cavaliers should KEEP Andrew Wiggins. During the Summer League he looked really good. With Wiggins they have a shooting guard with unlimited potential, a second lockdown defender on the wing and tons of cap space they could use to sign very good role players, they already signed Brendan Haywood, Mike Miller and James Jones, so they are building a nice team in Cleveland. One player I think they should trade is Dion Waiters. He recently stated on Twitter that he will not accept a role coming off the bench, which is a shame, because in my opinion, he is a perfect heat-check guy, something like Jamal Crawford is on the Clippers. But unfortunately Dion's ego will not accept being a sixth man. There is still hope that LeBron and new headcoach David Blatt will be able to somehow obtain Waiters, but if they will fail, there is no reason to keep him there.

The Return of the King

At last. The King has returned to his kingdom, and in this case it's Ohio. For days people all around the world have been waiting for LeBron James to decide where he will choose to play next. I spent hours refreshing my Twitter feed, to finally read the sentence: 'BREAKING NEWS: LeBron James will sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers'. That moment I felt genuinely happy for James. Finally he will be able to repair the damage he's done to many fans and he'll regain the popularity and respect he lost back in 2010.

I am a LeBron fan and I've been one since 2008. He is the first basketball player I liked, he is the first basketball player I actually googled. For me, it all started with him. Now I am still a Bulls and Kings fan, just because the King returned doesn't mean I will root for the Cavs from now on. I will root for LeBron, so anytime the Cavs play a team not named the Kings or the Bulls I will be cheering for the Cavs. That's just how I am.

Now let's talk what this will mean to the basketball world. Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, Andrew Wiggins, Tristian Thompson, Anthony Bennett and LeBron James all on the same team??(Bennett can still turn out to be a good player) Not playing a single game together they already became a championship contender from a non-PO team. It's crazy how much can one player change. That just shows the greatness of LeBron James.

After James' anouncement the other dominoes, or 'LeBronimoes' will begin to fall. What will Chris Bosh do? Miami or Houston? Will Melo stay or will he join forces with Rose and Noah? Will Kevin Love finally be traded??

Bosh will most likely choose to sign with the Rockets, and who can blame him? Would you want to play with Dwight and harden or with DWade for 50 games? And I must say, I feel sorry for Wade, but if he and LeBron are indeed 'brothers' he should understand that LeBron had to go back to Cleveland. Also I think it is still possible that Dwyane Wade won't return to Miami neither, and instead will go to his hometown Chicago. Wouldn't that be nice? All the members of the Big 3 returning to their hometown states?

Carmelo Anthony is a different case and right now I have no idea what's he thinking right now, but one thing is sure, he will choose between the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. This will come down to whether Melo wants to win or if he wants the $$$. In Chicago he has a much, much higher chance of winning a title on the Knicks. Sorry Knicks fans, but there is just now way you can build a championship team with Amare's and Bargnani's contract. It can't be done. Period.

Before the 'Decision 2.0' the Cavs were discussing a trade with the Wolves that would send Andrew Wiggins, some picks and another player for Kevin Love. That would happen only if LeBron chose Cleveland. And he did. Now reports state that the Cavs offered Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson, 1st round future picks for Kevin Love in a sign and trade deal. Now all we can do is wait.

To be completely honest LeBron's decision did came as a surprise to me. After the 'Decision' I didn't know what should I expect. Upon learning that the King will once again be a Cavalier I bursted with joy. And the essay James wrote on SportsIllustrated made me shed a tear. Just seeing him mature over the last 4 years is truly heartwarming "I’m not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. We’re not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I’m realistic. It will be a long process..." (http://www.si.com/nba/2014/07/11/lebron-james-cleveland-cavaliers) There was no 'Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4...) type of speech. Instead he acknowleadged the fact that it will be a long process and now he knows how hard it is to win a championship, but I believe in you Mr. James.

Hate him, or love him, but remember...appreciate the greatness.

NBA Finals: Recap, NBA Draft: MY PREDICTIONS

The 2013/2014 NBA Finals turned out not to be as competitive as I thought they'd be; the Spurs were able to handle the Heat in only 5 games. Wow. This series showed us the difference between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference and how good the Spurs REALLY are.

So the first two games were really close. Game 1 will be remembered as the 'Cramp Game' from now on, unfortunately. I believe that if LeBron got to play the whole game, the Heat would be able to grab this victory. The reason why Miami lost this series so easily was because nobody apart from LeBron contributed in any way. Mario Chalmers was turning the ball over, unable to make the open shot. Dwyane Wade looked awful, despite saving him all season so he could be rested for the Finals. Chris Bosh hit a couple 3s' and got dunked on by Manu in game 5. Rashard Lewis, Norris Cole, Chris Andersen, Udonis Haslem, Ray Allen, they all played very, very poor, mainly because they were too fatigued from the long 82 game long season. I really don't understand why Coach Spoelstra didn't play Michael Beasley more often. Wasn't he a starter for the Timberwolves and the Suns a couple years back averaging over 15 PPG? It's a real shame that Greg Oden didn't get to play at all, it's probably because he simply couldn't play, because of his 80 year old knees... People are talking about how bad the Heat were in the Finals, but I think they should be talking about how good the Spurs were. Seriously, San Antonio plays beautiful, TEAM basketball and that's what it's all about, about the TEAM. They kept making extra passes until they found an open Patty Mills in the corner, or a cutting Kawhi Leonard for the easy points. And that's how basketball should be played. I am mad that the Spurs are getting credit only in the Playoffs when the whole world is watching them play, but what can you do, right?

Now, let's talk about the Heat and the important decisions they have to make in this off season. Starting with their star players, I feel all three of them should opt out and take sign new deals with the Heat, you simply don't walk away from Pat Riley. Wade and Bosh could get a 5 year deal, earning 11-14 mln $ a year and LeBron a 5 year deal, earning 15-18 mln $ a year. By taking a pay cut they would have better options in the market. Next they should draft Shabazz Napier or Kyle Anderson, they are both good point guards that have potential to be better than Mario Chalmers. During free agency they should target players like Trevor Ariza, Marcin Gortat, Kyle Lowry, Pau Gasol, Kent Bazemore, Anthony Morrow, basically they need guys that could take a load off LeBron, Wade and Bosh. A perimeter player that is a knockdown shooter and definately a big man, Bosh at center isn't working out in my opinion. Also a player like DJ Augustin, Rodney Stuckey or Nate Robinson coming off the bench and provide some scoring would be great, as it was the Heat's bench that failed them the most (the lack of a defensive presence in the paint is second). Nate Robinson vs. Miami Heat

Enough talking about the Heat, NBA Draft is in 5 days!!! As you probably heard Joel Embiid hurt (probably broke) his foot and was forced to undergo surgery earlier today. Embiid was supposed to be the #1 overall pick in this draft, but now some teams are afraid that he will be another Greg Oden or Sam Bowie. If I'm the Cavs I'm still taking Embiid at #1, he was the #1 pick in most mock drafts during these past couple of months so why should he drop out of the top 5? He is a terrific prospect, right now he is just injured. Now I will write down my NBA Draft predictions, basing on who I think the team SHOULD pick.

#1 Cleveland Cavaliers - Joel Embiid, C
This guy will be amazing, at first I wasn't so sure about him, since I don't get to watch college basketball but after watching his workout he convinced me that he indeed is worthy of being selected as the #1 overall pick. For Cleveland, he is the 7 footer that can protect your paint, block shots, grab rebounds and on the other side of the court, he can score on the block, he has a nice, soft touch from midrange, all in all a great player who can evolve into your franchise guy that goes along with Kyrie Irving. Joel Embiid Workout

#2 Milwaukee Bucks - Jabari Parker, SF
Here the Bucks should go with Jabari, he is the most ready player to play in the NBA coming out of 1 year of college at Duke. He would provide instant scoring from every part of the court, and could one day turn into a Carmelo Anthony/Paul Pierce type of player.

#3 Philadelphia 76ers - Andrew Wiggins, SG/SF
The Sixers fell in love with Wiggins. There are reports that they want to trade Michael Carter-Williams and Thad Young to the Lakers for Steve Nash and their 7th overall pick and use their 3rd pick on Dante Exum, but I don't see it happening. I think they will pick the best player available and that's Andrew Wiggins. I also believe that he is the player with the most upside that could turn into a Tracy McGrady type of player or in the worst case a Tony Allen, where he would be a defensive stoper basically.

#4 Orlando Magic - Dante Exum, PG/SG
Orlando Magic has shown interest in Exum and rightly so, that is the right choice. After drafting Oladipo you would want to pait him up with another young guard and that is Dante Exum. He may not turn out to be Penny Hardaway, but this kid has potential to be very good in this league. He still has to improve his shot and passing, but other than that, he's fine.

#5 Utah Jazz - Marcus Smart, PG/SG
With Derrick Favours and Enes Kanter in the frontcourt, the Jazz should select Smart. Gordon Hayward will probably leave during free agency, so Trey Burke/Marcus Smart could be you backcourt of the future.

#6 Boston Celtics - Julius Randle, PF
Julius Randle is an athletic version of Zach Randolph. He has some post moves that he presented in Kentucky, but he also has a nice midrange game.

#7 Los Angeles Lakers - Noah Vonleh, PF
Vonleh can grow into a LaMarcus Aldridge/ Chris Bosh type of player. He is a good athlete with some range up to the 3 point line.

#8 Sacramento Kings - Aaron Gordon, PF
Aaron Gordon is a freak athlete that still has a lot to learn. He already is a defensive beast, all he has to do now is develop an offensive game. The Kings are stacked with forwards, with Jason Thompson, Derrick Williams, Carl Landry and Quincy Acy so I expect the Kings to make a couple of trades involving these players.

#9 Charlotte Hornets - Nik Stauskas, SG
The Hornets need another guard to go with point guard Kemba Walker and Nik Stauskas is the solution. The Michigan player is a terrific shooter with deep range and is also athletic, he showed a 40 inch vertical during the Lakers workout.

#10 Philadelphia 76ers - Doug McDermott, SF
Doug is a player with the highest basketball IQ in this draft, he makes the right decisions on the court and is an outstanding shooter also, but he will not match up to the other, more athletic small forwards in this league.

2013 NBA Finals REMATCH

I know I didn't post my ECF and WCF predictions, but if you have been following my Twitter acount, you'd know that I picked the Spurs and the Heat to win in 6 games.

The NBA Playoffs might have been overhyped, due to the EPIC 1st round series. The 2nd round and the Conference Finals haven't really been that good in my opinion, but at the end, we got the Finals we all wanted, well at least I did.

The San Antonio Spurs will once again face the Miami Heat, a team that miraculously won game 6, with the help of the greatest shooter of all time Ray Allen, and went on to win game 7 and capture their second straight NBA Championship. To be honest I don't know who to root for during these Finals. On one hand it would be great to see LeBron 3-peat, but on the other hand if the Spurs would win this championship, it would be a perfect end to the perfect journey of Tim Duncan and Greg Poppovich.

Both teams have multiple reasons as to why they should win the Finals and it's really almost impossible to choose which side will come out on top. I think it will all come down to how well the role players perform. Danny Green, Patty Mills, Boris Diaw, Tiago Splitter, Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis (who have been really ballin' the last couple of games), Shane Battier, Noris Cole or even Greg Oden, who we still haven't seen in these Playoffs. Another factor worth mentioning is Tony Parker's health. Recently he has been dealing with some ankle injury which could slow him down, giving the edge to the Heat's backcourt. I don't consider DWade's health as an issue, as he is shooting over 50% these Playoffs and scoring around 18-20 ppg, which is amazing. Also the Finals format changed back from 2-3-2 to 2-2-1-1-1, which is much better. In the 2-3-2 format the team that had the worse record had the advantage of playing 3 straight games at home, where they could close out the series.

I decided I will not go any deeper into these series. I just hope that we will expierience 7 epic basketball games. That's all.

The 'Melo-drama' continuous

In the 2010-2011 season Carmelo Anthony forced his way out of Denver and demanded a trade to New York. He was tired of losing, getting beaten in the Playoffs and saw an opportunity to play for the Knicks alongside a dominant power forward in Amare Stoudemire (yes, Amare once was a superstar caliber player, but injuries really screwed him up). So a multiplayer deal went down and Melo could play in his hometown of NY. The rest is history...

It seems like Anthony had more Playoff success in Denver than hehad in New York. In 2010-2011 PO he was swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round. In 2011-2012 the Knicks qualified as a 7th seed and faced up against the eventual champions, the Miami Heat. Once again injuries prevented them to play to their full potential and were eliminated in 5 games. Then 2012-2013 season came and the New York Knicks once again had to face the Boston Celtics in the first round. Only this time KG, Paul Pierce and Rondo weren't enough to stop Carmelo Anthony, he led the way to a 4-2 victory, giving the Knicks their first won PO series since 2000. Unfortunately in the second round they had to face the Indiana Pacers, a team which went on to the ECF and lost to the Heat in 7 tough games. The Pacers dealt with the Knicks in 6 games. But still, the Knickerbockers finally won a Playoff series, right? It's a sign for good things to come, right? WRONG. In the 2013-2014 season everything that could go wrong for the Knicks actually went wrong for the Knicks. They traded for Andrea Bargnani in the offseason, with Amare being still injured, they gave JR Smith an extension, now he makes around 8mln$ a year, Tyson Chandler was also dealing with injuries, then Bargnani got injured (while attempting to dunk almost from the freethrow line...), Metta World Peace took his talents to Twitter and wrote a couple of children books too, and they let Raymond Felton to be their starting point guard for the whole season... I'm sure I'm still missing something..ah! yes! On top of all that the Knicks failes to make the Playoffs! Nevertheless Carmelo Anthony played his heart out, battling for every inch of the court, trying to get the W. He led the NBA in minutes played, 38.7 minutes per game.

With the upcoming offseason the Knicks may lose Carmelo Anthony, and I doubt that signing Phil Jackson as their General Manager will change much, as in my opinion that team is a sinking ship and even the great Zen master won't be able to help them. Melo wants to win and he wants to win now. I doubt that Amare will use his early termination option on his contract and leave the 20mln$ he can still get out of the Knicks, so he will stay there for another season. The same with Bargs, JR and Felton.

So there are a couple of scenarios Carmelo can look at once he's a free agent:

1. Resign with the Knicks and pray that Phil Jackson will come up with some brilliant plan to turn things around. In my opinion right now they are in the rebuilding process, they will probably land a rookie headcoach in Steve Kerr and try to go from there, the only problem is that they can't bring in new players and are forced to go with what they have, and that's why I don't see any success for that team in at least 2 years. And I remind you that Carmelo DOES NOT want to wait any longer.

2. Sign with the Lakers and learn whatever you can from Kobe (that he is willing to pass on of course) and become LA's next superstar. There were many rumours supporting that, but things aren't too good in Southern California too. As of right now they are entering a rebuilding process and going after Carmelo would be a dumb move, having signed Kobe to an even dumber contract 24mln$/2yrs.

3. Sign with/get traded to the Houston Rockets and form a big three with James Harden and Dwight Howard. I think Melo would be a terrible fit in Houston, as they already have one a high volume scorer in James Harden, and I don't believe he would be willing to take the role of the second best player on the team like he did in OKC a couple years back.

4. Sign with/get traded to the Chicago Bulls. This is the best destination for Carmelo Anthony, I'm not saying this just because I'm a Bulls fan, I am saying this because it has the most sense. Look at what coach Tom Thibodeau has done with players like Nate Robinson, DJ Augustin, Mike Dunleay, he turned them into solid, team players, so think about what he could do with Anthony. Thibs provides a great system in the team's defence and offence and Melo being a deadly catch and shoot, iso, post up, all around scorer he would definately make him even better. With Derrick Rose coming back, and Joakim Noah finishing a career season, Anthony could form a new big three in the East with the Bulls. Imagine a lineup with Derrick Rose-Jimmy Butler-Carmelo Anthony-Taj Gibson-Joakim Noah. That's the dream and the recipe for multiple maybe not championships, but Eastern Conference Appearences for sure. In Chicago Melo can acheive the most success out of any other team, and being a Chicago Bulls fan, I would be more than thrilled to have him on my team.

Playoff predictions: 2nd round

Wow. wow. wow. That's how I would describe this year's first round series. Out of 8 matchups, 5 of them went into 7 games. These were surely one of the most exciting series in the recent years, and the best series I have seen in my life. Let's hope the rest of the Playoffs will continue to deliver more breathtaking plays and nerve-racking game winners.

Western Conference
(1) San Antonio Spurs vs (5) Portland Trailblazers
The Trailblazers are for real and they proved that by beating the 4th seed Houston Rockets. The pick&roll game between Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge was simply impeccable.  James Harden never really found his way in this series, as he was shooting  a Playoff career low 37% from the field. Whereas Dwight showed us his improved offensive repertuar. , but it still wasn't enough. Aldridge's first two 40+ games set the tone for the entire series and Lillard's game winner finished it in style.
The series which I thought to end quite fast, turned out to last 7 games. I believed the Spurs would let 1 game to slip away, but I didn't expect them to lose 3 games and fight till the very end. Nevertheless they played really good basketball, it was the Dallas Mavericks team which came out and didn't want to quit without a fight. That's why I believe this series will also last 7 games. The old veterans of the Spurs will be still tired after battling the Mavs, so competing with the Blazers will be an extremely tough job. Matchup wise, the SAS-POR series will be more or less equal, with Damian and Tony, Kawhi and Batum, Wes and Green, Splitter and Lopez and of course Timmy and Aldridge.

Prediction: Portland Trailblazers win 4-3

(2) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (3) Los Angeles Clippers
This series will prove whether or not the new MVP (KD) can get his team past the powerful LA Clippers. Blake Griffin really improved this past summer and you can see that in his play, taking more midrange shots, playing more in the posts, he simply became a very good all around player. I believe the X factor in this series will be the teams bench. It is widely known that the Clippers have one of the best benches in the league and the best 6th man in the NBA (Jamal Crawford), but other guys like Glen Davis, Danny Granger and Darren Collison also have to step up. On the other side we have OKC, and their bench is one of the worst in the league. Jeremy Lamb is not a good option if you're competing in the Playoffs, Reggie Jackson proved that he is a valuable player to keep around, Caron Butler can get you a couple points but his age has started to slow him down, Steven Adams can be a contributor, but he's a rookie so the pressure can eat him alive. I think if OKC loses this series, it will be a sign for them that changes are need to be done. Either trade away Westbrook for a true point guard (like Rondo) and a couple of draft picks/role payers, or fire Scott Brooks. I have seen Russell's play, some headscratching pull up 3s, missed dunks, he sleeps on defence, he'd rather shoot a contested shot than pass to an open teammate. This guy is feels like he can do whatever he wants and that's because his coach allows him to make these types of plays. Russell is an alpha, he wants to be THE man in the team and that just won't work when you're playing with the 2nd best player in the world. I expect Chris Paul to have monster games in this series, he will outplay the entire OKC team, at least twice and will fight for every possession, every lose ball, every rebound and that's because this man is tired of getting knocked out of the playoffs.

Prediction: LA Clippers win 4-2

Eastern Conference
(1) Indiana Pacers vs (5) Washington Wizards
What can I say? This series really depend on Roy Hibbert. If he continues to faul out of games, finishing with 0 points and 0 rebounds, the Washington Wizards will EASILY win. I still can't believe how a guy that's over 7 feet tall not grab a single rebound in a Playoff game? I mean c'mon, during the first week of the season you tweeted that you'll be the Defensive Player Of the Year, people voted you for a frickin' All Star game and now you cannot get just one, single rebound in 25 minutes of play? Damn... For the Wizards, they have to continue to play their game, it is that simple. Nene (unfortunately for me ehh) had his way against the REAL DPOY in Joakim Noah, so I think he will have no problem with West or Hibbert. Gortat has been the most consistent player on this Wizards team for the whole season averaging a double-double every game and frankly in my opinion, Marcin Gortat deserved to be an All Star more than Roy Hibbert. Wall and Beal will outplay their (only a bit) weaker oponents, George Hill and Lance Stephenson. Ariza will have a tough time guarding Paul George, but he is an elite defender and proved also to be a knockdown shooter from deep.

Prediction: Washington Wizards win 4-2

(2) Miami Heat vs (6) Brooklyn Nets
Despite the Heat losing to the Nets 4-0 in the regular season, they still should be able to take this one. Brooklyn just finished a 7 game battle with the Toronto Drakes--I mean Raptors, while the Heat rested after sweeping the Bobcats. At the end of the day the team with the best player in the world (LeBron James) wins the series. The series will still be tough for Miami, as the Nets were formed in a way to beat the Heat, they signed a bunch of veteran role players, and acquired Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, two guys that are filled with hatred towards the Miami Heat players.

Prediction: Miami Heat win 4-2

Playoffs predictions and my regular season awards picks!

This is how the 2014 NBA Playoffs bracket looks like. I will breakdown and pick the winners of each of the 1st round matchups.

Western Conference

(1) San Antonio Spurs vs (8) Dallas Mavericks
I wonder whether or not this will be the last time that two of the greatest power forwards of all time will face each other in the Playoffs. The epic duel between Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan lasted for a very long time, but I'm afraid this will be the end of it. One of the matchups of the last games of the regular season was Dallas Mavericks against the Memphis Grizzlies. Both teams had the same record and the winner of that game would end up being the 7th seed and the loser the 8th seed. I think the goal for each team was to not face the Spurs in the 1st round, avoid them at any cost, as matching up against San Antonio is definately not an easy task. Mavs have the opportunity to pull off an upset, but I don't think it will take place, Popovich's troops will battle with Carlisle men but ultimately the Spurs will win the war. The trio of Manu, Tony and Tim will easily beat the lonely deutschman, he may recieve some help from Monta or the rejuvinated Vince Carter and steal away one game, but that is it. Sorry Dirk, you tried your best.

Prediction: San Antonio wins 4-1

(2) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (7) Memphis Grizzlies
Hmm who will win this series? The team that has KD on it. Nobody in the league can guard this guy, maybe except for LeBron. The Grizzlies don't have a legit scorer on their team but OKC still had a problem with this team in the previous years.

Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder wins 4-2

(3) Los Angeles Clippers vs (6) Golden State Warriors
This is the best 1st round matchup of these Playoff games. Two rival teams will face off each other and fight to the death. This is going to be a tough series for both teams, especially for the Warriors, since Andrew Bogut is out at least till the end of April with an injury. David Lee and Jermaine O'Neal are going to have a bad time trying to contain Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, both improved drastically on offense. I wonder if Mark Jackson will go small and put Harrison Barnes at PF, like last year, when Barnes really blossomed and shined the whole Playoffs. In that case, the Clippers are going to have a problem. But honestly I think this is the year Chris Paul takes over. This guy wants to win, he is tired of losing, he wants that ring. With the help of the improve Blake Griffin he might actually get into the finals. The splash brothers will still fight and win 2 games, but that won't matter as CP3 and Blake close out the series with an even bigger splash.

Prediction: LA Clippers win 4:2

(4) Houston Rockets vs (5) Portland Trailblazers
This is the series which could go either way, both teams have one of the highest scoring offenses in the league, so don't expect to see good defense when watching these games. The key will be Damian Lillard and whether or not he will stand up to the task. This is just his second year in the league so the Playoff pressure may take a toll on him. Plus most of the Portland team will taste the Playoffs for the first time, so if they lose, don't be surprised. If think this will be a tough matchup for both teams and it could end up with a game 7.

Prediction: Houston Rockets win 4:3

Eastern Conference

(1) Indiana Pacers vs (8) Atlanta Hawks
The Indiana Pacers are struggling, Roy Hibbert can't get his head together, Paul George has been off lately, the balance of the whole team is shaken. It seems as if Andrew Bynum is a team cancer, that destroys team chemistry even if he's not playing, he can affect a team only with his presence. Still, despite their struggles, I don't see Atlanta Hawks winning a 4 game series against the Pacers, but I do pick them first as my potential Playoff upset.

Prediction: Indiana Pacers win 4-2

(2) Miami Heat vs (7) Charlotte Bobcats
The team with the best player in the world wins. Nothing more needs to be added. The Bobcats will win one game, probably behind Al Jefferson's monster game, every big man plays well against Miami.

Prediction: Miami Heat win 4:1

(3) Toronto Raptors vs (6) Brooklyn Nets
This is interesting. Both team are new to the Playoffs and both have coaches which never expierienced the Playoffs, so it is important how will they manage their lineups in different situations. We are still to see if KG and Paul Pierce have anything left of them, this series raises a lot of questions. But I pick the Raptors to win. The highflying duo of DeMar DeRozan and Terrence Ross (the remix of Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter) will outduel Pierce and Johnson, and they have a near all star on their team in Kyle Lowry, who is a great playmaker, and in my opinion a better player than Deron Williams who doesn't seem to get back to his glory days in Utah. But my opinion may be compromised by my hatred aimed at the Brooklyn Nets, no offense Nets fans, I just don't like your players, sorry.

Prediction: Toronto Raptors win 4:3

(4) Chicago Bulls vs (5) Washington Wizards
I'm a big Bulls fan so you already know who I have winning this series. The main problem for the Bulls is their scoring, they just can't score. Without DRose or Deng they have to rely on Augustin and Dunleavy, since Noah isn't exactly a scorer and Boozer is out of form. I would like to get something out of Jimmer Fredette, but I doubt that Thibbs will put an inexpierienced player out on the court in the Playoffs. The Wizards have everything they need to beat the Bulls, but their still young and new, they may lack the heart and intensity that Joakim Noah brings every night out on the court. Remember, he is capable of winning whole series by himself, just like he did last year against the Nets.

Prediction: Chicago Bulls win 4:2

Regular season awards:

Coach Of The Year- Jeff Hornacek
Even though the Suns haven't made the playoffs (which is a damn shame) Jeff stil did an amazing job with the team, that was supposed to win no more than 20 games this season and ended up winning over 45. Phoenix future is bright with Hornacek.

Rookie Of The Year- Micheal Carter-Williams
Despite losing 26 straight games, Carter-Williams still should win Rookie Of The Year honors. This guy put up Magic Johnson-type numbers, that's amazing. The reason he shot so purely outside the arc (26% lowest in league history) is because he was the focal point of the Sixers offense.

Defensive Player Of The Year- Joakim Noah
Beast on defense, just watch a Bulls game and see for yourself. I refuse to give that award to Roy (aka Mr. Overrated) Hibbert because of his rebounding numbers. I know that doesn't really have much to do with defense, but that is just unacceptable for a 7 footer to rebound jus 7 boards a game.

Sixth Man Of The Year Award- Jamal Crawford
I'd give this award to Nick Young, but his Lakers' record is too low.

Most Improved Player- Gerald Green/ Goran Dragic
I just have to award the Phoenix Suns in any way I can, espacially since they didn't make the Playoffs. Both of these guys made a huge leap and were a big reason why the Suns came that far.

Most Valuable Player- Kevin Durant
KD is this season's best player, no doubt about it. Broke MJ's record with most consecutive games with 25+ points, won another scoring title and kept OKC alive without Russell Westbrook.
